Phonics

At this stage, children focus on Phase 1, which lays the foundations for reading and writing. Phase 1 is all about developing children’s listening and speaking skills. We explore sounds in the environment, rhythms and rhymes, and begin to tune into the different sounds in words. This helps children build the key skills they need before moving on to learning letters and sounds in Reception

A Day in the Life

Whether attending a morning, afternoon, or full-day session, children have the opportunity to explore all areas of the classroom freely. Learning through play, discovery, and social interaction is at the heart of our approach, supporting both personal and academic development.

  • Our learning areas include:
  • Construction area
  • Home corner/role play area
  • Reading corner
  • Creative table
  • Phonics table
  • Mark-making table
  • Maths area
  • Small world play
  • Fine motor skills area

Children also enjoy a wide variety of sensory and malleable experiences with materials such as water, sand, playdough, ice, foam, pasta, and paint.

Beyond the classroom, we are fortunate to have a wonderful outdoor area. Here, children can develop their physical skills using equipment such as bikes, scooters, and balancing apparatus. We take our learning outdoors in all weathers and encourage you to provide suitable clothing so that children can explore, rain or shine.

We also joyfully live out the Catholic faith together through prayer, songs, and shared worship. Each day includes simple routines such as morning prayer, grace before and after meals, and an evening prayer. We also gather for small acts of collective worship, followed by creative and engaging RE activities that help the children grow in faith and love of God.
