Music

We are proud to be part of the Diocese of Leeds School Singing Programme.

Year 3 and 4 receive weekly singing sessions delivered by an expert Choral Director from the Diocese, focusing on positive engagement with singing and supporting the Catholic life of the school through sacred music. The sessions offer practical and incremental coverage of areas of the music curriculum - including notation - in a two-year curriculum framework developed by the Diocese, the National Schools Singing Programme and the National Youth Choir of Scotland.

As a result of this, our pupils also have the opportunity to join one of the Diocese’s acclaimed after-school choirs, which offer an incredible opportunity to pursue a passion for singing and music.

You can find online resources that support this work on the Schools Singing Programme’s YouTube channel (www.schoolssingingprogramme.org.uk).

Our local Diocese choir is Bradford Catholic Youth Choir - please contact office@dioceseofleedsmusic.org.uk for more information about joining.

Pupils in Key Stage 2 have the opportunity to learn the ukulele, developing skills in chords, strumming, rhythm, and playing in time. Lessons also build confidence, coordination, and teamwork as children play solo and in small ensembles. Children learn to read simple notation, explore dynamics, and use key musical vocabulary, supporting their overall progression in music.Top of Form

This year, all pupils from Reception to Year 6 have had the opportunity to take part in professionally led Rocksteady sessions, learning electric guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and vocals. These sessions help pupils develop musical skills, confidence, and teamwork, while encouraging creativity and self-expression. Being part of a band also provides an inclusive and enjoyable experience, supporting emotional wellbeing and engagement in music across the school.
